Before the formation of Toto its members, they worked as session musicians for Steely Dan[3] Seals, Crofts[4] Boz Skaggs, Sonny and Cher. The guitarist Steve Lukather is the band's singer.
About Toto
The group Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also well-known studio musicians who worked with Boz Scaggs at the time) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. Their name is derived from the Latin word that means "all all-encompassing," the group was intent on exploring every style of music.
Toto's third release, Turn Back, was an unfulfilling success in 1981. However they made amends with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two hit songs, including the title song and Roseanna. The album and tour make them a household name throughout the world.
After a hiatus of a couple of years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in 1986. It is a departure from the ballads of previous albums and features some heavy rock. This album was their first album to go platinum in North America.

Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, takes over Fergie Frederiksen as lead singer. The band releases Mindfields in 1999, and then embarks on a massive worldwide tour. After a few months in Europe they come to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a short break, Toto resumes recording and continues to record their first live album titled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes an original cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe in response to the band's cover of their hit Africa during a recent tour. Toto's touring band is rounded out by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

The following year, Toto toured together with Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band. This was the last time all of Toto's original members were on stage at once. Following this, the band broke up again. Toto returned for an event benefiting the ALS Foundation in 2010. to raise money for the ALS Foundation. This was the first time that all the original Toto members were on stage together in over 31 years.
